For example, at the Archbishop’s High School in Prague, the majority of students chose mathematics, namely 54 out of 61 matriculants, said school director Ondřej Mrzílek. According to him, one of the reasons may be that many students want to continue studying natural sciences.

According to Mrzílek, his students often choose state mathematics, and then choose a foreign language in the school part of the matriculation exam, which they get recognized with a language certificate. According to him, six pupils also chose an optional, more difficult exam in mathematics. A total of 3,481 students applied for it this year, said Jana Patáková, spokeswoman for the state organization Cermat.

From 2020, Cermat only organizes didactic tests. Oral and written works from Czech and foreign languages have moved to the school level. The exams can be held together with the practical exams from April 1st, the period for oral exams is from May 16th to June 10th.
