Like falling stones. The summer storm season has begun in Europe

--

“The storms that hit Europe were strong and started the summer storm season,” meteorologist Dagmar Honsová told Novinka.

The Italian metropolis, for example, experienced a strong hailstorm. “In Rome, hail didn’t fall, but stones rained,” described the element, one of the local residents. “It seemed endless. I’ve never seen such big hailstones,” recounted another.

Local meteorologists predict storms accompanied by persistent rain and low temperatures for the following days as well. During Friday, there is a warning for the regions of Piedmont, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Apulia, Basilicata and Calabria.

France also struggles with the vagaries of the weather. The Aisne region of northern France is struggling with large-scale landslides after storms and persistent rains. The town of Courmelles was particularly affected, where a 57-year-old woman died on Thursday night after being swept away by a mudslide. Her partner was taken to hospital with serious injuries, euronews.com reported.

In the department of Yonne in central France, severe hail caused significant damage to vineyards in the famous wine region along the Serein river valley.

In Paris, storms prevented about 40 flights from landing on Wednesday, which were eventually diverted to Nantes and Lyon in France and Brussels and Liège in neighboring Belgium.

A wave of strong thunderstorms also crossed Germany. The north of the country was hit on Thursday afternoon. For example, it rained 36 liters per square meter in Dahlem, Berlin, within one hour.

Germany also reports its first weather-related death. A man was electrocuted in the flooded basement of his house in Hausen near Würzburg.

At the end of the week, the weather will worsen in the Czech Republic as well, but there is apparently no danger of such big dramas. “Thunderstorms should appear on Friday afternoon not only in Bohemia, but also in Moravia and Silesia. They should bring rain with them, it could rain up to 25 mm in some places. We don’t expect tornadoes, hail, supercells and the like,” added Honsová.

According to her, storms should appear in the mountains on Saturday.
