The Czechs won against Finland 39:16 on shots, but in Brno they cheered up the full hall with only one shot into the net. “It’s still just preparation, it’s important not to go crazy about it. We will get better with every match, it is important that we have the best form, especially at the end of the World Cup,” Radko Gudas assesses with a perspective.

“We still need to play in the defensive zone. In addition, it didn’t suit us shooting, but I’m glad we had so many shots. If we had scored the first goal, the match would have looked a little different,” said the Anaheim Ducks defenseman after the 1-4 loss.

The Finns showed their classic hockey, didn’t they?
Yeah… We had good chances, we lacked a better finish. Until next time, we have to finish it, otherwise our performance was not bad. But we have to be careful about weakening. Anyway, all the guys fought until the end.

You haven’t played a match in two weeks, how did you cope with the intense pace?
I think it was good right after thirty seconds.

Thanks to a hit in the first inning?
That’s right, you need something like this. (smiles)

Does cooperation with Michal Kempný in one defense work well for you?
We have known each other for a long time, we played together already in the youth club, also in Washington. We know what to expect from each other, we are comfortable together.

You are in the national team for the first time since WC 2019. Nice return, right?
It’s always an honor, I really enjoy the matches, I’m glad to be able to come. Again, it’s a nice experience for me.

Is there an extra meter at the guardrail?
It’s just about habit, about different angles. The more training and matches you have, the easier it is. You have a little more time with the puck, so you can improve your passing game. We still have a week to polish everything.

Almost two teams could be put together from the nomination, what are the trainings like?
The training sessions are more brisk, the ice is destroyed a little faster, so the peace of mind on the hockey stick is a little lacking. I think it’s more of an advantage. The more competition, the better for the national team. I didn’t know a lot of guys, she was getting to know me, I enjoy it. The boys are smart, young, that’s good for Czech hockey.

You will play your first match at the World Cup with Finland. What did this loss show you?
We have to shoot the puck for them. Any breaks will cost us strength, they have fast breaks and outnumber. Even the coach talked about it after the game. But we manage the pace of the game, I saw a lot of positive things there.

What about the atmosphere in Rondo?
Great, we didn’t hear each other much on the switch, I like that. Brother-in-law, father-in-law and dad also enjoyed it. He always enjoys it, he remembers when he used to play here.

With numerical advantages, Radim Rulík decided to switch defenders. Have you not thought about this possibility?
Me on the power play? I haven’t seen that in a few years. The strength of the team will be knowing what our roles are. We have smart guys who are specialists in this. I will be very happy to help the team in my strengths.
