Another game, another loss. The Swiss have only scored two points at this year’s EHT and are still waiting for their first victory. Coach Patrick Fisher has all the more reason to call up the newly retired compatriots from the NHL. He wants to use the ones he already has in action tomorrow against the Czech Republic.

The Swiss had a good start to the midday duel with Finland, but they did not get anything out of the pressure in the first period. And the Finns drove like through a copier. Second period, first goal, then they pulled out the concrete. The group around forty-year-old captain Ambühl had to bite the bullet of a 3:1 defeat.

“The first goal turned the momentum to the Finnish side. We started to play chaotically, which benefited their defense. We didn’t find a recipe for their defense – the Finns deserved to win,” Swiss pilot Fisher assessed the match. “He doesn’t get into the Finnish defense easily. But if we don’t score an empty net and don’t even help ourselves with a penalty shot, it’s difficult,” he continued.

“Tomorrow they will play.”

The string of Swiss losses at this year’s Euro Hockey Tour has thus already stretched to eleven games. The Swiss have the last chance for at least one green whistle tomorrow. “Whether it’s training or the world championship, we always want to win. And in every game we did everything for it. We are happy to play against such great teams before the World Cup. Tomorrow we will want to grab the first win,” Fischer plans.

The only NHL player to start against Suomi was the New Jersey goaltender

Akira Schmidt

“The Czechs have a very energetic team. In addition, they are motivated for the domestic championship, everyone wants to play there. I really like them under the new coaches, they already played well in November. We will have to play our best hockey against them,” praised the Czech native Fischer.
