Although Fernando Alonso finished the sprint, he practically finished first for him

Hamilton was on the inside of the first corner when he made contact with Fernando Alonso’s car. He then crashed into Stroll and he into Norris.

“We’ll see what they decide,” Alonso told DAZN of the sports commissioners. “I don’t think they’ll decide anything because he’s not Spanish, but well… I think it spoiled the race for a few people. Especially to Norris, who has a very fast car and it ended for him with that incident.”

The sports commissioners recorded the incident, but in the end did not even investigate it. This means that we don’t even have an official opinion. But it is virtually certain that they considered the collision a “first round incident”, which is always assessed less strictly.

Training instead of sprinting

“He might not be penalized today, but I’m always penalized. I was behind Ocon, maybe I could take a risk and overtake him, but logically I don’t risk to avoid a penalty and try to finish the race, which is 19 laps, and go back to the team to talk about changes.”

“We weren’t even interested in the sprint. We just wanted to check the relegation and stuff for tomorrow and we finally got it done. Actually, it wasn’t a race for us, but a training session. Now the important part of the weekend starts – qualifying and tomorrow 57 laps. I think we can draw some conclusions from this sprint for the parc fermé that is now opening. We’ll see if we can improve the car a little more.”
