The train ran into a fallen tree. There were no injuries in the incident. Firefighters evacuated nine passengers from the damaged train. České dráhy deployed a replacement bus service that bypasses the closed section of the railway.
According to the Czech Railways (ČD) website, the accident concerns the section between Cheb and Luby u Cheb stations. After the accident, ČD initially assumed that traffic restrictions could last until around midnight on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, a passenger train derailed without passengers also in the Praha-západ district. But this train started on its own and ended up overturning off the tracks. The incident also resulted in no injuries, the cause is being investigated by the police and the Railway Inspectorate.
It rained in the Karlovy Vary region on Thursday afternoon, and in some places it was heavy rain accompanied by a thunderstorm and strong wind.
