Hungary does not like the upcoming giant NATO package for Ukraine

--

Hungary, which is a member of NATO, continues with its rhetoric that describes aid to a defending country as support for war. In a video published on the social network, Szijjártó criticized that NATO wants to pump another 100 billion dollars (2.3 trillion crowns) into the war in Ukraine.

“Peace in Europe is thus getting further and further away, as NATO is moving rapidly to cross the red lines previously drawn together,” said the Hungarian foreign minister.

He reminded that the aforementioned 100 billion dollars should be collected by the member countries of the Alliance over the next five years. “This means that NATO expects to extend the war by at least five years. It is a significant risk, because every day of the war carries the risk of the conflict spreading,” argued Szijjártó.

“We will fight so that Hungary is not part of this madness,” added the head of Hungarian diplomacy.

According to him, no solution can be found on the battlefield. “There is only dead and destruction on the battlefield. A solution can only be found at the negotiating table,” added Szijjártó.

Budapest presents a similar attitude repeatedly. However, so far diplomacy has not been able to find a way to get the aggressor, who launched the invasion and claims the territory of the neighboring state, to stop attacking. And the restrictions on the supply of aid, which the Ukrainian defenders have been dealing with lately, have been used by the occupiers only for further gains.

The upcoming package

All 32 NATO member countries should contribute financially to the $100 billion aid package for Ukraine mentioned by Szijjártó. The aid is to be divided over five years.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg came up with the proposal. According to diplomatic sources from around the North Atlantic Alliance, the package, which has not yet been approved, should contribute to the continuation of aid to Ukraine even in the event of a change in American policy after Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The US presidential election will take place in November.

According to diplomats, an agreement could be reached before the NATO leaders’ summit in Washington in July.

If the mentioned package is approved, according to earlier reports, NATO could take over the operational responsibility of the Ukrainian defense contact group (Ramstein), which coordinates the supply of weapons to Ukraine from abroad.
