The Mechatronik company, based in Pleidelsheim, north of Stuttgart, is interested in classic cars, especially Mercedes, but also other brands. Not long ago, she included among the cars for sale an iconic Ferrari F40 plaque car from 1990 with a mileage of only 21,100 kilometers.

With a selling price of 2,995,000 euros (75 million crowns), the company decided to exhibit it at Motorworld, which was held in Bblingen, only 18 kilometers away. Similarly, the cars are sometimes transported on a tow truck, but due to the proximity of the customs, Mechatronik decided to take the Ferrari on its own axle.

kol was celebrated on April 21st as the twenty-fourth anniversary of the company’s employee. And it was a worthy decision. With an erratic car, the young man crashed into the wall with full force in the middle of the Engelberg tunnel on the German highway A81 from Stuttgart.

Didn’t resist the fine?

During the accident, the entire front of the car was torn off and the police had to completely close the tunnel in the direction of Singen. Rescuers immediately drove to the scene of the accident and took the boy to the hospital. Pascal Stephan, a spokesman for the Mechatronik company, told the German newspaper Bild: the man was checked at the hospital and was not injured. This is the longest!

And the police spokeswoman announced that it is not yet known whether the accident was caused by a technical fault or excessive speed. Anyone who has ever driven a Ferrari F40 must be clear that the youngster could not resist the temptation and suddenly revved the engine due to a loud rumble. She was followed by a skid and a crash into the tunnel wall.

Compared to today’s turbochargers, the ones in the F40 work on and off. Not much happens below 3,000 heads, but a real rodeo follows. Somewhere, Ferrari F1 pilot Gerhard Berger described how he once drove an F40 and at a speed slightly below 200 km/h in fourth gear, his rear wheels buckled. The sudden increase in turbocharger pressure was also typical for the first Porsche 911 Turbo, which lost its engine due to several accidents.

After taking a ride with a Ferrari F40 seven years ago, Frantiek Dvok, the chief editor of the automobile column at iDNES.cz, shared his experience with this beast: The advice for a prisoner who is tempted to sit behind its wheel is simple, but it is important: when will they start turbo, dr steering wheel eq. The penalty was not met by flying off the asphalt at lightning speed.

They made so many

The F40 model was created on the 40th year of the brand and was the last car of the Maranell brand that was put on the market during Enzo Ferrari’s lifetime. Old Mr. Pr once declared that he would always make one car less than he would sell. With the new model, however, they did not let Ferrari forget this rule. The F40 model thus became a symbol of the Italian invulnerability of that time, when 450 units were originally produced, but 1,311 were eventually produced! etn in Maranello (and in Fiat) they certainly rubbed their hands.

Ferrari F40 drank in the ideal time. Using the supercar boom of the late 80s, not until the early 90s did the bubble burst with a big bang. Ferrari won, but various speculators greased their pockets and later sold the cars many times and seven times the original price.

Today it’s different. Ferrari produced ten thousand cars, but it wants to maintain a certain exclusivity. And the offender must sign up to the written conditions. For example, to the fact that he does not sell the car in the specified time. Not cadmium, but these and gave restrictions lb. The well-known American moderator and car lover Jay Leno even compared the process of buying a Ferrari to masochistic practices.

The car, its price at the end of the 1980s was equal to 444,000 DEM, two more were sold, not on the first produced piece the paint dried (99% of it was red Rosso Corsa). Then the war took place somewhat like Italy. The Ferrari F40 toti had a common chassis composition with the 288 GTO model and they baked it in just 13 months. The unflinching supersport, designed by Pininfarina studio designers Leonardo Fioravanti and Aldo Brovaron, was a purist machine for true pilots.

In comparison with the technologically advanced fool-proof Porsche 959 with all-wheel drive, the Ferrari F40 made its raw immediacy anachronistic. The Italian model, however, became the fastest production car of its time with a maximum of 324 km/h, when the Porsche topped it by 9 km/h. And the official acceleration value from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.5 seconds.

But it was a death. When it was launched in 1987, Enzo said: I set out to make a car that could remind us of Le Mans. And Dario Benuzzi, a former Ferrari test driver, stated in one of the interviews that the F40 model was always mistaken as a seductive car. And less than twenty pieces were actually modified for car wiring.

The comfort of the pasar pair was therefore the last thing that was thought of when driving, something that is immediate, especially when you first sit behind the wheel. The air conditioning charge is only included as a necessity to combat the intense heat generated by the engine. All other carpets, aluminum doors and interior handles and radio, the constructions were cut out in an attempt to save weight.

And the creator of the F40 design, Leonardo Fioravanti from the Pininfarina body shop, added: This world has a lot of sweat, a lot of technology, and here we once again found car design as an emotion, the same as in the old days. It’s not nostalgia, but we are proving that even today it is possible to make a car with human input.

Sms irho terror

Britt newspaper reported the Ferrari F40 as a sms of raw terror and raw excitement. According to them, it is terrible in the wet, rough on bumpy roads and on long roads with mud. In the American magazine Car and Driver, they even used the term “prisoners” from Bangkok to describe the uncomfortable idea.

As soon as you sit in the F40, you will understand the inspiration of the seductive cars produced by Maranell. Although you sit on the left and the steering wheel is directly in front of you, the pedals are offset towards the center to fit between the wheel arches. It’s not pleasant, especially when the rigid anatomical seat doesn’t loosen during side-to-side movement, but you can get used to it.

It has a clutch that is uncomfortably hard and a steering wheel where you would really appreciate the power steering. Every pedal in the classic five-step gearbox with a hydraulically controlled clutch is accompanied by metal clicks, and a strong pedal is required for the gear shift.

British designer Gordon Murray drove the Ferrari F40 in 1990 and appreciated the low weight. The dry weight of the car is at the limit of 1,100 kilograms, and the curb weight, i.e. with the engine and operational contents, including refueled fuel, is 1,260 kilograms. In this case, the Italians first looked for composite materials for their power model. The entire bodywork is also made of carbon fiber and nomex.

A large motorcycle with a plastic body

Murray was otherwise critical of the Italian car. You can hear how the door panels start to rattle and creak as you drive around the circuit of the spatial tubular frame construction. This is like a big motorbike with a plastic body. The sail consists of only 11 body panels. The wheel suspensions are classic with pairs of five arms and parallel coil spring/damper units.

In some places, for example on the inside of the door, the panels remained uncovered. The Spartan’s dashboard is covered with a similar carpet. The car does not have central locking and it is necessary to lock the door behind the passenger. have you seen him anywhere? Bingo, in the iguluk. Originally coming from a Fiat 124 from the 1960s, it has become a truly luxurious dernier after a few years.

The Pirelli P Zero tires were specially designed for the F40, this Ferrari does not work with others. The controllability of the first prototypes was very poor, recalled Dario Benuzzi, long-time Ferrari test driver. But gradually she got better. At these speeds, the Finnish version still experiences a slight understeer, but as the speed increases, the car’s behavior improves and becomes full-on. Who sweats it, until the Ferrari F40 has time to correct and take it. Who doesn’t, end up off the road.

The 1.0-liter fork eight-cylinder located in front of the rear drive shaft was a further development of the unit from the type 288 GTO. With the help of two IHI turbochargers, the designers extracted a respectable power of 351 kW (478 hp) from it.

It is a car built with the typical Italian mentality of uncompromising. The Ferrari F40 is not ideal for daily driving, but it works great as a weekend toy.

After a ride in a Ferrari F40 seven years ago, Frantiek Dvok wrote on iDNES.cz: As soon as you start up and behind your head, through a pair of intakes, a dull engine starts, you are free to decide whether you can drive or have to take revenge. For its kind, the Ferrari F40 is one of the strangest cars you can imagine. It is uncompromisingly hard and narrow, driving from Prague is like a trip through a minefield. On the retarders, you have to take out perhaps the only unorthodox vc, which you can find on the F40 pneumatically outside the front lights of the car.

For many, the Ferrari F40 is still the best car of all time, and 37 years since its premiere, nothing has changed that. For car lovers, it will always be one of the most revered super sports. Not only the performance, but also the unmistakable shapes to fit into all motoring textbooks.

And on those plaques in many garages and small rooms, stand out from the crowd!
