Do you have a classic vacuum cleaner at home, the one with a cord for the socket and on wheels? You may have noticed that it has a small opening on the suction tube. And if you haven’t looked into why it’s there, you might not even know what it means.

Less is sometimes more

It mainly serves to regulate the intensity of vacuuming, or sometimes perhaps rather suction, of your device. In general, parquets, floating floors or linen are vacuumed well, even with less power. Whereas for firmly installed carpets, you can choose a higher intensity.

But it has certainly happened to you that loosely laid smaller and lighter carpets have almost stuck to the suction hose. And you then had to tear them off by force as the vacuum cleaner, running on high power, tried to absorb them. And just opening and closing the hole can help you in these cases.

In the same way, opening it, and thus reducing the negative pressure, will allow you to get rid of dust and delicate and fragile things. Without fear that a strong air current will destroy them.

Protect the engine

But it has another function. Sometimes it happens that in addition to the garbage and dust that you want to vacuum, the vacuum cleaner also sucks in a lying sock or a plastic bag. Just some larger object that has the ability to clog the hose. And in extreme cases, this can lead to overheating or even burning of the engine. However, if you keep the opening mentioned open, you can easily avoid these inconveniences.

In this way, you will release the pressure, increase the air flow and thereby also achieve cooling of the engine. You don’t have to worry that the vacuumed dust will get out of the vacuum cleaner again through the open gap. The current of air that caught and trapped him is so strong that it gives him no chance to escape from the set path.

Clean the old and new filters

If you want your vacuum cleaner to last as long as possible, don’t forget to change the bags and clean the filters. You should change the cleaner after about every fifth vacuuming. So you will reliably achieve that the vacuum cleaner will not smell and its motor will cool down optimally.

Maybe you already have a newer appliance at home. The one that just needs to recharge the flashlight, so you don’t have to drag the cord from room to room. But definitely don’t forget to clean it too. It is not enough to just empty the garbage from the collection container. You have to wash it all over regularly, including the tubes that get clogged.

And of course, don’t forget the filters. Some vacuum cleaners have more than one. Otherwise, it will light up and emit typical “suction” sounds over time, but the garbage will only end up in the tube. But no longer in the collection container. Or the device does not absorb it at all, although it will appear that it is in full use. But before you want to claim it, wash it thoroughly. Preferably even where the old one didn’t need it at all.
