New Renault Symbioz officially: A real family car! The trunk has over 620 liters

--

The brand does not mention the possible expansion of the range of engines or the conventional combustion unit. So at the moment we are looking at a purely full-hybrid novelty.

Renault is further expanding its range of crossovers with a completely new model called Symbioz. The novelty fitting into the C segment, in which the French brand is completing its offensive, is supposed to represent an ideal family car. In Renault’s portfolio, it fills the gap between the Captur and Austral models, while it will be available exclusively with a hybrid system.

The basis for the Symbioz is an extended version of the CMF-B platform (in the normal version used by the smaller Clio and Captur models). The aforementioned place in Renault’s portfolio is confirmed by the novelty, which is 4413 mm long with a wheelbase of 2638 mm, while it is 1797 mm wide and 1575 mm high. Renault tried to keep the weight below 1500 kg.

The five-seater crossover has a trunk volume somewhere between compact SUVs and station wagons of the C segment. As a standard, it offers 492 liters in the case of the rear bench pushed all the way back (it can be moved in a range of 16 cm, thus providing the crew in the back with up to 22.1 cm of legroom) . If the bench is pushed forward, it is possible to increase the volume of the trunk up to 624 liters. The rear seats can be folded in a ratio of 60:40 and at the very bottom they increase the luggage space to a maximum of 1582 liters. Practicality is complemented by Renault with a total of 24.7 liters of space in the storage compartments in the cabin.

The Symbioz shares the dashboard architecture with the new Capture. In front of the driver is a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the latest OpenR Link infotainment running Android Automotive 12 has a vertical 10.4-inch touchscreen (standard on all trims). For charging and connectivity, the crew has two USB-C connectors at the front and two more at the back.

The Symbiosis is also equipped with a Solarbay panoramic roof with adjustable transparency, which was already introduced on the Rafale and Scenic E-Tech models – the transparency can also be set separately for the front and rear crew. Also worth mentioning is the optional nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and, for the highest trim levels, the inclusion of a set of up to 29 different assistance and safety systems of the latest generation (ADAS).

For the new crossover, Renault mentions the only available engine E-Tech 145, i.e. the specification of the full-hybrid system already offered for example in the mentioned Captur. A system output of 145 hp (107 kW) is provided by a combination of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine (94 hp/69 kW), a pair of electric motors (36 kW e-motor and 18 kW starter-generator) and a 1.2 kWh battery . Here, too, you will find the well-known multi-mode automatic transmission (4 gears for the internal combustion engine and 2 gears for the main e-motor).

Renault plans to start sales of the Symbiosis as early as June, with the first cars appearing at Czech dealers in September of this year. So we should know the price before long.
