From July, apartment buildings will use more electricity produced on the roof

If the house does not have a storage battery, households can consume electricity only when the photovoltaics produce it, i.e. mainly during the day. Now it works in such a way that what is not consumed immediately goes to the network as an overflow.

Newly, electricity will be distributed in several rounds. But it will apply to a group with a maximum of fifty take-off points, typically just for apartment buildings or smaller energy communities.

For example, if two households built a power plant and each had a half share in the electricity produced, but at the same time only one of them consumed electricity during the day, the other half of the electricity would be sold to the grid, which is not worthwhile. That should change from July.

“You might have two subscribers, for example, and each of them would subscribe to half. If the power plant produces and consumes only one consumer, only half of the energy produced is used. In the second round, I will take the remaining production and again divide it between the two consumers. And this will happen five times, and almost everything will be consumed by the person who uses the electricity, and only a minimum will go into the network,” Alexandr Černý from the Energy Regulatory Office told Novinkám.

It speeds up sharing

The Electric Power Data Center will start operating in July. Those interested in sharing electricity remotely, i.e. from the power plant on the roof of the cottage to their apartment in the city, for example, will register with this center. To share electricity, you will need a continuous electricity meter that measures the consumption and production of electricity after fifteen minutes. Those who already have it or will mostly purchase it at their own expense by July will be able to start sharing immediately after registration, which the data center will have a month to process. Such an electricity meter will cost several thousand crowns.

Those who want to get it for free will register at the data center and request an electricity meter from their distributor, who will replace the old electricity meter with a new one within three months. However, according to the senior director of the energy and nuclear resources section of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, René Neděla, electricity will be shared sooner. “Distributors have informally confirmed to us that in practice they will be able to install the meter much earlier,” he said.

The department sent a decree on electricity metering to the Legislative Council of the Government, which will allow interested parties to submit a request for the installation of continuous metering.

“Thanks to this, those interested in installing this measurement will be able to apply earlier,” said Neděla. Although the application will need to be accompanied by a data center registration application, nothing prevents applicants from submitting this application at the same time as the installation application. “Before starting the sharing, the data center can record and gradually process the received requests,” he added.
