Brutally defective olive oil has reached the Czech Republic. Everyone bought it, but especially don’t put it in your food

--

The quality of food in Czech stores is really poor. Retail chains try to buy the cheapest goods all over the world, which they then sell to domestic customers. Since everyone does it, there is almost no defense against it and you can’t “vote with your feet”, as they say, unless you want to go shopping exclusively to Germany or Poland.

That really didn’t work out

It is then only a step from low quality to food contamination. And it is probably not surprising that it is considerably higher in the Czech Republic than in other countries. In short, they are connected vessels, and if the chains balance over the abyss, they will sometimes hum into it.

The second thing is that it seems to pay off for them because they do it all the time. The last time a similar incident took place was around the popular Kaiser Franz brand of olive oil.

The reason for recalling the product is its unsatisfactory quality. For preventive reasons, we are recalling the product of the mentioned lot,” said the Globus retail chain on its website. However, the product was probably also sold in other chains that did not announce the recall. “If you have purchased the mentioned product, you can return it to any of our Globus hypermarkets, where you will also receive a full refund.

You are certainly interested in the complete data of the problematic product. It is therefore a Kaiser Franz Josef Exclusive Extra Virgin Olive Oil product, DMT/batch: 21.2.2025/L – 23052E04, EAN: 8594012795471. The supplier is Gaston.

Oils are a problem

In this case, the product was not seized by the State Agricultural and Food Inspection, which is also the reason why we do not know what exactly happened to the given oil. However, given the recall by the store itself, it was probably very serious.

At the same time, it is precisely olive oils whose problematic nature in Czech stores SZPI has repeatedly drawn attention to. It is also one of the few product categories where it carries out regular surface checks. And it usually finds extremely serious transgressions. For example, the fact that counterfeit oils are being sold, or those that are not intended for consumption at all. It is possible that this was a similar case.
