After receiving the information, the train conductor moved the passengers from the affected compartment to another car.

In addition to smuggling across the Ukrainian-Slovak border, the railway carrier RegioJet has another problem on its new connections to Čop. The passengers in the couchette car were bitten by bedbugs. On the way to eastern Slovakia, a pair of passengers discovered the unpleasant insects in their bedding and upholstery on the train that left Prague on May 2 at 9:52 p.m. The news website iRozhlas.cz reported on the case. RegioJet said it has noted the case and is actively looking into it.

“After about two hours of driving, my partner’s hand started to itch. After turning on the light, we noticed that he had large red bites on his arms and legs.” described to the radio one of the passengers, who also documented the bedbugs photographically.

After receiving the information, the train conductor moved the passengers from the affected compartment to another car. “We have noted this case and are currently actively looking into it,” RegioJet spokeswoman Alexandra Janoušek Kostřicová answered the question of the iRozhlas.cz server.

Getting rid of bed bugs is not easy, they can easily be brought home in your luggage or clothes. It spreads easily from one apartment to another in apartment buildings. In such cases, it is recommended to call for help from an expert in disinsection. The good news is that bed bugs are not associated with the transmission of dangerous infections.

České dráhy also had to deal with bedbugs several times in the past. For example, in 2018 they appeared on connections to Budapest. After a thorough disinsection, the affected cars were shut down for up to a month to make sure that all developmental stages of the bugs were destroyed.

Bed bugs are also a problem for French public transport, and the Minister of Transport called an emergency meeting with carriers last September because of this. According to French disinsection expert Stéphane Bras, bedbugs are increasingly common in society. “This applies to all sectors, not only hospitality and tourism. There is no reason for transport to be spared,” Bras told Le Figaro.
