Prague – After the drop over the weekend, the coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic slightly accelerated again on Monday. There were 2,756 confirmed cases of infection, which was four percent more than a week ago. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. However, the number of people tested for the coronavirus also increased on Monday, so the proportion of detected cases of infection decreased in the most numerous category of tests. On Monday, the number of hospitalized patients with covid-19 also decreased again compared to the previous week.
At the end of July, the daily increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus began to gradually slow down. In the past week, the increases compared to the same days of the previous week first increased, and on Saturday and Sunday the spread of the virus slowed down again. Although the increase in the number of infected people accelerated on Monday, the number of people tested also increased by six percent compared to the previous week. 5008 PCR tests and 5575 antigen tests were performed.
Most tests now fall into the diagnostic category, where people with symptoms of the disease are tested. In this category, the share of those tested positive on Monday fell slightly from 33.48 percent on the previous Monday to 31.36 percent. However, in the other two less numerous categories, preventive and epidemiological, the share of positive tests in the number of performed tests rose.
Since the beginning of August, the number of people who ended up in hospital with covid-19 has been gradually decreasing. There were 617 hospitalized on Monday, which was 30 percent less than a week ago. 27 patients were in serious condition. The number of deaths of people with covid-19 has also decreased by almost 30 percent over the past week. There were 34 deaths in the last seven days, while 47 people died in the previous week.
However, the so-called incidence number, i.e. the number of new cases of infection in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, rose slightly. As of today, there were 102 cases, which was one more than Monday. The incidence number is now the highest in the Hradec Králové region with 122 cases and the lowest in the Karlovy Vary region with 80 cases.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in March 2020, approximately 4.05 million cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include cases where someone has been infected repeatedly. Suspected re-infection is about 311,000. During the entire period of the epidemic, 40,857 people died with covid-19. About 6.89 million people were fully vaccinated against covid-19 in the Czech Republic. More than 4.3 million people received the first booster dose and about 174,000 the second. On Monday, 3,985 people were vaccinated, which was about four hundred fewer than a week ago.
