A few days ago, Eminem shared a post on Instagram in which he told his followers that he has been successfully avoiding addictive substances, led by alcohol, for 16 years. But his path to complete abstinence was not easy at all.

His relatives congratulated him

The photo of the coin in his palm, which he shared on social media on April 20, bears the slogan Unity, service, recovery, which is the link and message of the Alcoholics Anonymous community, and the number 16. His anniversary was not left without a response even by those closest to him. His longtime manager Paul Rosenberg captioned the post, “Sweet 16. So proud of you.” Younger brother Nathan captioned the photo, saying, “My biggest role model and mentor.”

Drugs and alcohol were a killer combination

Eminem has not been drinking or taking any other addictive substances since 2008. He once revealed that he was addicted to the drugs Vicodin and Valium, as well as alcohol. “I started taking drugs with the arrival of the first album,” he revealed in 2022 in one of the interviews. “But I didn’t do hard drugs until I got really famous,” he said in the interview. “I experimented. I haven’t found a drug I like. People gave me all kinds of free stuff during the tour. And so I was taking them until all of a sudden I couldn’t stop.” Eminem admitted that he always downplayed his addiction. But only until it got completely out of his control. He found himself at the very bottom in 2006, when his colleague and close friend rapper Proof died. “I couldn’t walk for two days,” Eminem revealed. “At one point I even had 10 drug dealers.”

He wouldn’t have been able to do it without his personal advisor

He went to the first rehab in 2007, but as soon as he returned to normal life, he fell into it again. Then he found a personal rehab counselor and finally started taking rehab seriously. Although it was not easy at all. “I remember when I first got sober I was incredibly happy. Suddenly everything was new to me again.’

He shares his story to be an inspiration to others

He decided to talk about his dark years and rehab years ago precisely so that he could be a role model for those who are just about to go to rehab, but have not yet found enough strength. After all, she is not the only celebrity who openly talks about her addictions. For example, Demi Moore, Tom Holland, Jamie Lee Curtis or Drew Barrymore confided in their dark life story. Bradley Cooper was also addicted to cocaine, Brad Pitt also struggled with alcohol. All of them managed to win over addiction. Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky. That is why those who are listening to the whole world want to talk openly about it. They spread awareness so that the treatment of addicts is as successful as possible.
