In the world of smartphone batteries, every now and then a new company comes along, shows off a “revolutionary” battery, and then the ground collapses. And that’s because she doesn’t have any mobile partner to work with, or would develop a custom-made mobile battery for him.

However, this does not apply to Enovix, which has confirmed a development agreement with one of the five smartphone OEMs in the world in terms of units sold. Enovix thus agreed with Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo or with the Transsion consortium, which includes the brands Tecno and Infinix.

The Enovix EX-1M battery promises to increase the capacity by 18%, while maintaining the current dimensions, battery samples are already available to the eight largest manufacturers in the world. In addition, Enovix has entered into a development agreement with one of the top five OEMs in the world. We do not yet know which brand it is

Together with the signing of the agreement, the company also released a comprehensive presentation by an as yet unspecified manufacturer, in which it mentions the main advantages of the new “3D Silicon Lithium-ion” batteries. The first EX-1 battery model came with an 18% increase in capacity while maintaining the current dimensions, but it was a standard battery with slower charging and a guaranteed 500 cycles without a significant drop in capacity. However, the signed agreement is for the EX-1M batteries, which have characteristics comparable to the EX-1, double the life cycle (1,000 charges) and faster charging. Samples are already available to manufacturers in the current quarter.

Battery capacity will increase

In the last quarter of this year, EX-2M batteries will be added, which, while maintaining a longer service life and fast charging, will offer up to 30% more capacity while maintaining the current dimensions than conventional Li-Ion batteries. The EX-3M model planned for 2025 then promises an even greater increase in capacity and even faster charging, but the manufacturer does not provide exact numbers. According to the schedule, it would like to have several models of smartphone batteries available by 2025, as well as more production lines for smartphone batteries. The first phone with a new type of battery should, according to the company’s assumptions, reach the market next year at the latest.

The company Enovix is ​​based in Silicon Valley in the USA, research and development takes place in India and Malaysia, and the production of batteries itself is in Nonsan, South Korea. From these locations, we can infer a closer connection, both with Apple and Samsung. However, the company has not yet specifically named its partner.
