/PHOTO, VIDEO/ Shots were fired in the restaurant on the square. There are dead and hostages! A report that will change the lives of a pair of ordinary police officers during a routine duty. An emergency vehicle is also heading to the scene. However, the tension soon subsides, because everything is just part of one of the scenes of the film The First Watch. In the past few days, passers-by could see, for example, actors Pavel Řezniček, Petr Buchta or František Beleš in front of the camera on Masaryk Square in Boskovice in Blanensko. Other footage was shot, for example, at the shopping center behind the Bosko hospital or in the neighboring Letovice.

The short student film from a fictional South Moravian town was directed by Vojtěch Konečný from Prague’s FAMU, who also participated in the script, and produced by Adéla Konečná.

Filip Hájek was behind the camera. Why did they choose the town of 12,000 in Blanensko for the filming of the graduation film? “We were looking for a smaller town in the South Moravian and Zlín regions. Boskovice is picturesque, photogenic. I was convinced by the square and the views from the surrounding hills, I knew we were in the right place. The representatives of the city and the police went out of their way to accommodate us and there was no problem with the arrangement, just like in neighboring Letovice. Due to the storyline of the film, there is also an interesting contrast between picturesqueness and evil, no one would have expected in reality that there could be shootings in such a beautiful city,” said Deník Konečný.

In the twenty-minute film, he captured the tragic event from the perspective of the police officers. He was inspired by a similar case that happened years ago in Uherské Brod.

“At that time, it resonated strongly in society that something similar could happen here. We knew similar tragic stories from overseas. I found it interesting to work on this topic from the point of view of the people who are in the background, through the eyes of police officers. They are doing their job and such an intervention can change their life forever. I wanted to bring to the fore the humanity and understated heroism of ordinary people, the solidarity of the community against evil. Just aspects that are actually mostly hidden,” he described the shooting of the student film Konečný.

The crew should finish it at the end of this year and submit it to short film festivals. Thanks to the co-production, it is also scheduled to appear on Czech television at the end of next year.
