This year, the Pilsen Region will support almost 80 million crowns for trails and routes for cyclists. Of this, more than half will be given to municipalities for 11 cycle paths and cycle routes. The money will go to Stříbr, Dolní Lukavice, Chrást, Holýšov, Předenice, Koutu na Šumava, Přestice, Město Touskova, Blovice, Zdemyslic and Břas. The council has already recommended the subsidy to the council for approval, which will be on April 8.

The region will give an additional 37 million crowns to the cycle path outside Pilsen from Bukovec to Chrást. It will be built on the body of the former railway line from Pilsen to Prague. According to Čížek, the region is building 5.9 kilometers and Pilsen 300 meters. A 3.5 meter wide belt will lead from the Pilsen part of Bukovec in the direction of Prague to Chrást. “We hope it will be ready by the end of May. So it will be ready for the tourist season. Construction started a few weeks ago.” said the deputy governor Pavel Čižek (TENT).

The projected price was over 50 million, but thanks to competition from suppliers, the region reduced the final price. “Including construction supervision and projects, it is for 37 million crowns. And on top of that, we get a subsidy of 80 percent,” he said. It is the largest project for cyclists in the Pilsen region to date.

Trains ran from Bukovec to Chrást until 2018. After the construction of the Ejpovice tunnel was completed, the Railway Administration dismantled the tracks and sleepers and transferred the up to 12-meter-wide body of the former high-speed line to the region.

Pilsen wants to build a continuation of the cycle path towards the Doubravka quarter this year, over two kilometers long and 5.5 meters wide, where there will also be space for inline skaters. He has 28 million in the budget for this. At the beginning of the trail, in the coming years, the city district of Plzeň 4 is planning a viewpoint with a center for cyclists, refreshments and a parking lot, the study is complete.

This year there was enormous interest in regional money for municipal cycling lines. From February 1 to 23, 17 cities and municipalities applied, which, according to the deputy, requested 75 million crowns. “That’s why we increased the support by a third to 40 million crowns,” he said. The regional councilors had previously approved 37.8 million crowns for Stříbro, Dolní Lukavici, Chrást, Holýšov, Předenice, Kout na Šumava, Přeštice and Touškov Town, the remaining 2.2 million crowns on Monday. According to Čížek, Blovice will repair the surface of long-distance cycle route number 31 in Vlčice for 600,000 crowns. Zdemyslice will receive the same amount for the “Brdská cycle route”, i.e. the Žákava-Blovice section, and Břása will receive a million crowns for the international cycle route CT 37 in Plaská street.

The total amount for municipalities can increase by up to ten million crowns even after the distribution of last year’s regional economic surplus.
