The 59th edition of the Academia Film Olomouc (AFO) International Popular Science Film Festival has started in Olomouc, this year on the theme of Memory. The event was ceremoniously opened by Governor Josef Suchánek on Tuesday, April 23, at the Metropol cinema, and other representatives of the region, namely Ivo Slavotínek, Petr Lysek, Martin Šmída, Jan Žůrek and Michal Obrusník, visited the opening screening.

This year’s packed program offers up to 250 items, whether it’s film screenings, concerts, talks, lectures, workshops, walks or original exhibitions. For example, in the Red Church, visitors can enter another world through virtual reality.

An entire main section of film screenings, lectures and, for example, podcasts is dedicated to memory. However, the theme also floats across the other non-competitive sections, which will show it from various points of view. The program will include, for example, the sections Nature and nature, About mushrooms and people, Dinosaurs of tomorrow or Science in pop culture.

The festival has been organized by Palacký University since 1996, making it one of the oldest Czech cinematography shows. Its organizational driving force is mainly current and former students of the university. In terms of the number of accredited viewers, it is one of the most visited film festivals in the Czech Republic. You can find the program HERE.
