Last week, customs officials picked up a VW Sharan passenger car with a Polish license plate for inspection on the D8 highway near Lovosice to check whether it was transporting goods that might be of interest to them. For example duty-free or spirits, cigarettes and the like.

“During the inspection of the luggage compartment, we discovered shoes that we reasonably suspected were goods infringing certain intellectual property rights. There were 12 pairs of sports shoes and 36 pairs of Nike slippers in the cardboard boxes, which did not correspond to the original products in terms of processing, packaging and price,” explained Jiří Nejedlý, spokesperson of the Customs Office for the Ústí Region.

In the original, this item would be worth almost 50 thousand crowns. The customs officials secured the fakes and imitations of shoes and took them to the warehouse. The fifty-two-year-old foreigner behind the wheel faces administrative proceedings.

Another success was recorded by the customs officials in the hospitality establishment in Chomutov. During the inspection, they found and confiscated three technical gaming devices, so-called quiz machines, for the operation of which the appropriate permits were not granted. “In addition, we seized 15 keys and cash in the amount of 1,700 crowns,” added spokesman Nejedlý.

The seized machines were taken to the warehouse of the customs administration. The operator faces a fine in administrative proceedings of up to 50 million crowns.
