Prague – Several dozen Star Wars movie fans gathered today in Prague’s Wenceslas Square. From there, people set out in costumes for the parade through Prague and then headed to the Cross Club in Holešovice, where the main celebration of the International Star Wars Day takes place. Visitors can enjoy a program or purchase books and other souvenirs related to the film. The first film in the series Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope was shot by director George Lucas in 1977.

“This year’s Star Wars day is the first in four years, post-covid, so we’re happy to make it happen again and we hope people will have fun here and everyone will celebrate Star Wars day, what we all love. It’s it’s also the holiday of the costume organizations Rebel Legion and Czech Garrison 501st Legion,” said one of the organizers, Pavel Klimeš.

People in costumes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader or Rey, but also the robot R2-D2 began to gather in the square after 9:00. They also had flags with motifs from the movie with them. From the square, they then went towards the Old Town Square to finally head to the Holešovice club.

According to Klimeš, there are many things that unite Star Wars fans. “It’s 100 people and 100 tastes, but if I had to speak for myself, I’ve always liked the mythology, that it’s fantasy, but in a sci-fi jacket, that’s always attracted me to it,” he said.

In the Cross Club, lectures are prepared for fans, among other things, about the new Star Wars-themed books, discussions and interviews with guests who will discuss various topics related to the film series, for example, they will talk about the 25th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode I – A hidden threat. The voice actors who lent voices to the characters will also speak. “We also have activities for children, children’s cos play, and a number of other things,” said Klimeš.

The Star Wars saga has touched millions of fans around the world. It is one of the most successful stories of all time, whose fame and popularity has transcended film studios and cinemas. George Lucas won seven Oscars for his first film.
