ÚSTECKO – The victim allowed fraudsters access to her banking
The victim made her account available to the fraudsters and was left with tears in her eyes
Around three o’clock in the afternoon, a sixty-five-year-old woman received an SMS message on her mobile phone. The victim opened this link and subsequently logged in using her bank identity. A window opened for her to confirm a payment to one of the phone companies. However, the victim did not click on this and logged out of the bank identity. Immediately after that, however, she was called by an alleged employee of the bank, who told her that the bank had detected an unusual movement on her account and whether it was intentional on her part. The victim was relieved that the bank was so prompt and told the alleged official that it was definitely not right and that she just wanted to deal with it. The banker asked her what phone it came from and assured her that colleagues were already working on it and that she should not be afraid that they would block the event. He asked for an hour of her time. Subsequently, the victims started receiving confirmation SMS messages from an anonymous number. After logging into her online banking via computer, she was horrified. Not only did all the money disappear from her account, including the overdraft limit, but 50,000 crowns were also used up on the credit card linked to the account. She immediately contacted her bank. However, she told her that she certainly did not do anything with her account and that those who called her were certainly not from the bank. So the only thing left for her was to block her account and card, and cry her eyes out.
