The South Moravian Region received an amended proposal from the Ministry of Finance for comment, which regulates the financing of the regions.

The calculation for South Moravia remains the same, but the final number is higher thanks to current economic predictions. The region should improve by 2.8 billion crowns compared to 2024.

The new form of regional financing was approved by the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic at its meeting on March 14, 2024. The Ministry of Finance then prepared an amendment to the governors’ original proposal together with current assumptions for the development of the economy until 2027. When taking into account the predictions, significantly more money will flow into the region’s budget.

“Originally, I said that from 2027 there will be 1.6 billion more in the budget annually thanks to fair financing. Now we were able to include the current forecast of the economy in the new formula, and we are looking at a completely new number – 2.8 billion crowns. I had great joy before, but this is great,” explains South Moravian Governor Jan Grolich.

It is still true that the funds for the regions will increase gradually due to the impact on the state budget. In 2025, South Moravia should have 1.5 billion crowns more than this year, in 2026 (compared to 2024) 2.2 billion crowns more, and from 2027 (compared to 2024) the budget will be 2 .8 billion crowns.

The Ministry’s proposal was approved yesterday by the Council of the South Moravian Region without comments, next week the council will vote on it.

In addition, the region wants to send money mainly to roads, which have suffered for a long time due to a lack of funds. Already this year, the region has allocated a record 2.5 billion crowns for them – the plan is to repair more than 140 kilometers of II roads. and III. classes. The region will also receive more than 2 billion crowns for the access links towards Dukovany due to the completion of the nuclear power plant. Looking ahead, the region also wants to support the healthcare sector with higher financial subsidies.
