He experienced firsthand what it’s like to be attacked by an enraged wild pig. “If the policemen hadn’t shot him, I would have been dead,” says the thirty-three-year-old Lukáš from Blovic in southern Pilsen, where the consequences of the attack are visible even after more than two weeks have passed since the dramatic event. The roughly 80 kg female attacked him directly in Blovicí after she escaped from the captive breeding. The locals don’t even want to imagine what would have happened if, for example, a mother and child were in the area at that time, and wonder how it was even possible that someone kept a wild boar in a residential area. The police and the state veterinary administration are dealing with the case.

Record of wild boar attack in Blovice:

The drama, the likes of which the town has not experienced for a long time, took place on Sunday, April 7, in the early evening. According to people in the area, the wild pig escaped from the land belonging to JP, who does not live there, but keeps various animals there. As they found out, he also had a full-grown wild boar there. “An eyewitness saw the animal, which had apparently escaped from the sty, lift the flimsy door and run away. It didn’t seem aggressive at all. Lukáš, who went there to feed him, meant well, he wanted to lure him to the food in the bucket. But the pig kicked his bucket and started chasing him,” a woman from the neighborhood told Deník. Dramatic moments were right before her eyes. “I saw how he rolled him, attacked him in the side and elsewhere. He rolled it meters in front of him. We shouted at the police to shoot him. It was a fire, about eight shots,” she described the dramatic moments.

The video that Deník managed to obtain from one of the local residents also confirms that the situation looked relatively peaceful at first. On it, the pig behaves calmly, walks by the fence. Lukáš calls Ferdo to him and lures him to the bucket. The pig first goes to sniff the policeman, Lukáš warns him to be careful not to be bitten by the old lady. But then he himself becomes the victim of an attack. The shot ends as the wild boar chases him and knocks him to the ground. To save the man, the police had to reach for a gun and kill the animal.

A wild boar in southern Pilsen threatened people and seriously injured a man

The cannonade, as described by several locals, was also heard by Pavel Krupař, who lives nearby. “I saw a wounded man, a pig lying in a pool of blood about a hundred meters away. But everyone concentrated mainly on saving the vital functions of the injured,” Krupař described to Deník. A man attacked by a wild boar confirmed to Deník that his life was at stake, he suffered multiple injuries. “Maybe the apple in my knee was completely off, they had to give it back to me,” specified one of them. He promised the newspaper to describe in detail what happened, but during the interview he said that if he talks too much, he may lose his life. He said goodbye that he was in a hurry and left. The next day, he did not arrive for the arranged meeting and did not open the door at home.

The secretary of the Blovice town hall, Václav Kybic, told Denik that the town hall had no information that any of the locals were breeding wild boar, for which permission is required. He added that the city hall is not dealing with the case, everything is in the hands of the police and the state veterinary administration.

“Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the matter on suspicion of committing the offense of bodily harm due to negligence. The case is in the investigation phase,” said police spokeswoman Eva Červenková on Wednesday. If JP was found guilty, he could face up to a year in prison.

The Regional Veterinary Administration of the Pilsen Region (KVS PK) is waiting for the police to close the case. She has been involved in the matter from the very beginning. The director of the animal health and welfare department of the KVS PK, Richard Bílý, told Deník that the killed wild boar was taken to a slaughterhouse for safe disposal after an agreement with the police. “In the slaughterhouse, a basic examination and autopsy of the carcass of a female wild boar weighing 80 kg was subsequently carried out, during which no pathological findings were found, except for the consequences of being shot. Official samples were taken to rule out some diseases – rabies, classical and African swine fever. An examination in the accredited veterinary laboratory of SVÚ Prague ruled out infections, all examinations were negative,” informed Bílý. The KVS PK verified the very next day after the event that no person in Blovice has a permit to breed wild boar in captivity, and according to Bílí, they don’t even have information on who was the wild boar breeder. Now the vets are waiting for the police to close the matter. If she had come to the conclusion that it was not a criminal act, she would have handed over the file to the KVS PK.
