The Central Commission did not approve the repair of the Goat Railway to Krupka, but it will be started anyway

--

If the repair can be completed, the route of the trains running along the Goat track extend by approximately eight kilometers and four stops. “Newly, the Unčín station will bring passengers closer to Kyšperk Castle, the Bohosudov station will provide a connection to the cable car to Komáří vížka, and the Krupka station will be a new way to visit the historic zone, Krupka Castle, the educational trail In the Footsteps of the Miners, the mining cultural landscape and the Starý tunnel Martin, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage,” explains Krupka deputy mayor Rostislav Kadlec. It is Krupka that belongs to the municipalities that, together with the region, have long been promoting the restoration of traffic on the line that connects eastern Ore Mountains with Děčín.

Initially, the media talked about the fact that the repair was decided by the central commission of the Ministry of Transport, which decides on large investments. “The Central Commission of the Ministry of Transport did not approve this repair. And she couldn’t, because it hasn’t been presented to her yet,” František Jemelka, spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, told Deník.

Nevertheless, in the coming months, the repair, which the region has been pushing for for a long time due to the development of tourism, should begin. The railway administration managed to find the necessary money so that it could start the repair work without the approval of the central commission. This is probably money saved on another repair. In addition, the region threatened SŽ with a lawsuit for its many years of inaction, for which it was also fined in the past. “For the repair of the Telnice – Krupka město section, we are already preparing documents for the tender procedure, and if the situation continues to develop according to assumptions, work on this section will end in the third quarter. Estimated costs are roughly 50 million crowns,” Dušan Gavenda, spokesman for the Railway Administration, told Deník.

This amount is significantly lower than what the Railway Administration talked about in the past when it operated with the amount around 350 million crowns. However, the section that she would like to start repairing this year is significantly shorter, and the entire Goat Track will still not be passable. In addition, the current repairs do not even include the repair of the section between Děčín and Telnica, where today only small motorbikes can go due to the load capacity of the track. Neither passenger trains led by a locomotive nor heavy freight trains, which used to run here in the past, can enter it. At the same time, freight transport was in demand among carriers, for example there was talk of collecting wood from the slopes of the Ore Mountains.

It is the Krupka město stop that is important for the Krup town hall. Trains will bring tourists not only below the lower station of the cable car at Komáří Vížek, but also up to the region included in UNESCO. However, the region does not want to end the restoration of at least tourist traffic on this line. “Our next goal will be the connection of the Goat Railway and the Moldavská horské railway at the Louka near Litvínov railway station, which the region will take over,” Deputy Governor Jiří Řehák, who, among other things, is in charge of tourism, explained other plans.

The goat track was opened 153 years ago and has gone through industrial and political history. Originally, the coal line from Děčín to Chomutov in the foothills of the Ore Mountains changed its length and route several times due to coal mining, one of its most beautiful sections led under Jezeří Castle. From 1961, there was a service from Děčín to Oldřichov near Duchcova, in 2007 the service stopped being ordered. Subsequently, tourist trains temporarily returned, but their operation was stopped by a landslide above the track in Děčín. Trains started running on the track again between Děčín and Telnica Two years ago.
