At the beginning of September last year, a tragic accident occurred in Olomouc. At that time, the woman fell naked under the moving tram at the Výstaviště Flora stop and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Olomouc criminal investigators are now prosecuting the tram driver for manslaughter. If found guilty and convicted, the driver faces up to six years behind bars.

“It was an elderly woman, she suffered devastating injuries to her body,” rescue service spokeswoman Lucie Mikisková told Report in September, stating that the rescuers did not even perform rescue work, it was just an examination of the deceased person.

According to the police, the driver was behind the control panel of the tram on September 14 around 2 p.m. She caught an eighty-six-year-old senior woman at the Výstaviště Flora stop in the direction of travel towards Brněnská Street. “According to the conclusion of the examination, the woman did not manage to get out of the second car of the tram set in time. As a result, the upper half of her body was caught by the closing door, but it did not close her.” said police spokeswoman Ivana Skoupilová.

According to the DPMO, there was no wrongdoing

This should have thrown the elderly woman off balance, which is why she did not step on the elevated stop, but fell under the moving tram. The woman succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

The thirty-seven-year-old man was charged by criminal investigators with the crime of negligent homicide. “The criminal prosecution of the accused is taking place at large. If found guilty and convicted, he faces up to six years in prison.” spokeswoman Skoupilová added.

According to the Transport Company of the City of Olomouc, however, there was no misconduct on the part of the driver. “We are very sorry for the tragic accident, but there was no driver misconduct on our part, given the safety rules and procedures in place,” said DPMO spokesperson Anna Sýkorová, according to whom the driver has the full support of the company in the ongoing proceedings.
