The new regional development company ZRIA is currently dealing with the possibilities of future use of land in Zlín – Malenovice owned by the Zlín Region. There are several variants at play, but all of them aim at a common goal – to make the Zlín Region more attractive. And not only for young people, but also for new investors. The governor’s office wants to involve the public in the debate about the use of the land on which the previous administration of the region planned to build a new hospital. It is therefore launching a survey in which interested parties can comment on individual proposals.

“The Zlín region is aging faster than other regions in the Czech Republic. We are also faltering in the area of technology, the ratio of specialists to managers, as well as attractiveness for young people. A recent survey showed that three out of four students do not see their future in the Zlín region and are about to leave. The Malenovice zone is one of the fundamental opportunities for us to stop this negative trend. We want to create a lively space here that will appeal to people across generations,” explained Governor Radim Holiš.

According to Petr Kubíček, strategic director of ZRIA, the Zlín Region is looking for inspiration abroad. “Switzerland, for example, is setting the global pace of innovation today. The key is effective cooperation between universities and industry, an elite education system, a connected business environment and a commitment to scientific research. Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich’s cooperation with elite schools such as ETH Zurich attracts talent and investment. It is a difficult challenge for us, but it is a path that can move the Zlín Region to a new level,” said Petr Kubíček.

The goal of the leadership of the Zlín Region is to increase the quality of education in the region, bring new opportunities for graduates to apply, develop academic and private sector cooperation, and support entrepreneurship and the investment potential of the region.

“For example, there could be an interactive educational space for students of all age categories with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Deputy Governor David Vychytil of one of the possible plans. “We want to give young people as many opportunities as possible to excel right here at home, in the region, and enable them to do world-class work from Zlín,” he added.

In addition, housing for young people, a university campus, business premises, a sports complex or cultural facilities are also considered for the future use of the zone.

The public can also express their opinion on the new use of land in Malenovice. Those interested can vote at: SURVEY – MALENOVICE PROJECT (google.com)
