VIDEO: An unusual night intervention! Police officers from Krupka chased the speeding excavator

Krupka – City police officers in Krupka have had a very unusual intervention. In the first half of April, they chased a large Caterpillar wheel loader in the streets of the city at night, whose driver had obviously lost his way and drove his machine into the opposite direction several times. In the process, he damaged a traffic sign.

The officers found out that something was wrong shortly after midnight on the recording of the city’s camera system. “In Mariánské náměstí Street, our cameraman saw a large wheel loader that drove in the opposite direction and continued towards Koněvova Street. That’s why we immediately sent a patrol to the place, and in the meantime, the police of the Czech Republic called us that they had reported an excavator driving on Krupka,” said Jiří Petrák, director of the Krupka city police.

A scene like from an action movie followed. Several police patrols tried to find and stop the loader in the streets of the city. However, when the driver in 1. Máje Street found out that he was being chased by the police, he turned around at the intersection with Příčná Street and continued driving back to Krupka. However, at half past one in the morning, another patrol in 1. Máje street blocked his way and the driver had no choice but to stop.

Subsequently, the police asked him to turn off the engine and get out of the excavator. “However, he didn’t really want to go out and almost fell while getting out of the cabin. When the officers came closer to him, they could smell alcohol on his breath,” Petrák described, adding that the officers used coercive measures and handcuffs against the man out of concern for his safety and also because of a possible escape.

As it later turned out, the loader was missing a license plate and the man had a suspended driver’s license. The police subsequently measured 2.08 parts per million of alcohol in his breath with an indicative breath test. The police of the Czech Republic therefore took over the case on suspicion of committing the crime of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance.
