The largest, the International Summer Language School (MLJŠ), will offer, in addition to classic European languages, also Arabic, Persian and Czech for foreigners. The Faculty of Applied Sciences offers the most summer schools, seven, such as robotics, cybernetics, programming and artificial intelligence for pupils and students, said ZČU spokeswoman Andrea Čandová. There will be over 1,100 participants in all summer schools, mainly taught by pedagogues of the University of Pilsen.

“Interested men and women can apply now. Most courses fill up quickly.” the spokeswoman said Andrea Čandová.

The 34th year of the language school, which will be held from July 8 to 26, will mainly offer weekly intensive full-day courses in German, English, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese. “It will be general and professionally oriented languages of all levels for one to three weeks,” she said Daniela Kopřivová from the Institute of Language Training of the ZCU. Pupils and students of primary, secondary and university schools, as well as the general public, can apply. The prices remained the same as last year, 4390 crowns per week, children and students pay 500 crowns less.

The information is on the website, where interested parties can apply until May 19, there are still places in all courses. According to Kopřivová, Pilsen hosts the oldest and largest summer language school in the Czech Republic. The record number of participants was 690 in 2019, last year there were 200 fewer, this year around 300 participants and dozens of foreign lecturers are registered so far. Two thirds of the participants are children, this year their interest is also the greatest.

Summer School of Art

On the same days as the language school, the international art summer school ArtCamp for those interested over the age of 15, organized by the 18th Faculty of Design and Art, will be held. The classes will be led by 40 lecturers, less than half of whom are guests, including foreign ones. The courses are weekly. Intensive teaching in small groups of eight to 15 participants costs 5190 to 5990 crowns. “We are accepting applications until May 31st, but as the course capacity fills up quickly due to high demand, we recommend not to wait too long. Over 300 places are already occupied,” she said Lenka Kodytkováthe director of the camp, which is attended by over 400 people every year.

The menu includes popular jewelry, fashion and furniture design, photography, illustration, figure drawing and virtual reality. Courses are in Czech and English. The main goal of ArtCamp is to encourage young high school students to apply to art colleges. “However, it is suitable for both experienced artists and the public who want to spend time creatively here,” she stated.

Other courses will focus on robot programming, electrical engineering and mechanics of solids and fluids, nanotechnology, geomatics, marketing and economic adventures. The computer science summer school from July 22 to 26 will focus on artificial intelligence and computer graphics. The summer school of the University of the Third Age, the suburban summer educational camp with the faculty of pedagogy, this year called Time Wanderers, and the summer school of electrical engineering outside Pilsen in Tachov are well attended.
