The electrification of bus line No. 137 is about to start, DPP is looking for its contractor – Cysnews

--

Transport company hl. City of Prague (DPP) today issued a public contract for the contractor of the electrification of bus line No. 137 Na Knížecí – U Waltrovky and the construction of up to 37 outdoor charging stations for trolleybuses in the Řepy garage. The expected volume of the public contract amounts to 170 million crowns without VAT. The DPP anticipates the very start of construction this year in coordination with other projects that other entities are preparing in the area. It expects to be put into operation in 2025, bus line No. 137 will then change to trolleybus line No. 52.

This investment event represents the construction of a charging and power supply infrastructure for the operation of battery trolleybuses in the Na Knížecí – U Waltrovky section.

Selected connections of line No. 137 currently go to Jinonice and Mala Ohrad, however, due to the intensity of traffic, only the hilly section Na Knížecí – U Waltrovky will be electrified. Here, the vehicles overcome a long and drawn-out climb from Smíchov towards Malvazinky with an average gradient of up to 7%. The rest of the route to Waltrovka also has a profile with a significant climb, or descending. For this reason, the share of the section with catenary line will be approximately 80%. This investment event is part of the project of electrification of bus lines in the Left Bank part of Prague, in addition to No. 137, also lines No. 131, 176 and 191, which are also in an advanced stage of design preparation.

As part of the construction of this trolleybus line, approximately 4,440 meters of single-track trolleybus line will be created, which will be between the Santoška and U Waltrovky stops.

It will be necessary to install 104 traction masts, while the same rule applies as for previous electrification constructions. This means that a forest of new masts will not be created just for trolleybuses, but DPP will use combined masts to the maximum extent possible, which will serve both for traction lines and for street lighting. In addition, it will be necessary to lay approximately two kilometers of cable routes and build a completely new transformer station in Peroutková street, which will feed the catenary line in the Santoška – U Waltrovky section.

The construction of the Na Knížecí – U Waltrovky trolleybus line is consistently coordinated by DPP with the head m. Prague and investment actions of the Technical Administration of Communications, Hl. City of Prague (TSK) “Humanization of Peroutkova Street”.

“If there are no major complications, either in the course of the public contract for the contractor or in the parallel TSK project in Peroutková Street, we anticipate the start of infrastructure construction in the fall of this year, and battery trolleybuses could appear on the line by the end of 2025,” he says Jan Šurovský, member of the board of directors and technical director of DPP – Surface.

DPP will deploy battery trolleybuses of standard length, i.e. 12 meters, on the line. In October of last year, DPP issued a public contract for the supplier of up to 70 vehicles of this type, and now the contract is being signed with the winner, based on the decision of the Office for the Protection of Economic Competition (ÚOHS), which upheld DPP’s arguments.

Part of the investment project for the electrification of bus line No. 137 also includes the construction of seven charging stations in the current Na Knížecí bus terminal, which will be intended both for line No. 137 (trolleybus No. 52) and in the future also for No. 191 (No. 56) . Thanks to the use of synergistic effects and the capacity of the tram network, the charging stations in the Na Knížecí terminal will be powered from the Radlice tram switchyard.

In addition, as part of this public contract, DPP will set up up to 37 outdoor charging stations in the Řepy garage, which will follow on from the infrastructure built as part of the electrification project of bus line no. 119 (now trolleybus no. 59). The new stands will be primarily intended for parking battery trolleybuses with a standard length of 12 meters, which should gradually be deployed on electrified lines No. 137, 131 and 176.

“Given that the electrification project of line No. 137 will be carried out in close coordination with the TSK event ‘Humanization of Peroutkova Street’, residents and passengers on line No. 137 will not only see modern, ecological and quiet battery trolleybuses, but also a completely new and better public space,” concludes Jan Surovsky.

The electrification of bus line No. 137 together with three others in the Left Bank part of Prague was approved by the City Council. Prague in June 2020.

Subsequently, it was also approved by the DPP board of directors. The action is fully in accordance with the approved Concept of the use of alternative fuels in the conditions of DPP bus transport and also the Climate Plan of the capital. city of Prague. The DPP will endeavor to obtain financial support for the construction of the third Prague trolleybus line from subsidies from the European Union from the National Recovery Plan.
