The fifteenth year of the traditional May Day event at Doubravka Castle is ready again, and children and adults alike can look forward to interesting activities. The national holiday of May 1, which this year falls on a Wednesday, will offer parents with children the opportunity to go to the landmark of the region and enjoy a free day. In addition to competitions, there will also be live music and refreshments.

Scouts from the Doubravka center in Teplice have prepared games for children. After arriving at the start, where it will be possible to register for the competition from 12:00 p.m. to half past three, the children will set out to complete a series of prepared tasks, after which they will receive a reward. “The goal is mainly to have fun, but also to test your skills, dexterity and maybe even courage in the castle dungeon. However, it is nothing complicated and even children of preschool age can handle the competitions. As a reward, they will then receive a spekáček, which they will roast with their own hands on a prepared fire pit,” says Jiří Richter from the organizing scout center Doubravka, about which more information can be found at www.doubravkateplice.cz. To participate, which is free, you just need to arrive at the castle and pick up a guide at the stand just outside the castle gate, however, the event is canceled in case of rainy weather.

Children will compete until 3:00 p.m., while adults can visit the castle armory with a display of historical weapons, try throwing an ax or compete with others in a whiskey bottle toss and a tug-of-war for a barrel of beer with honey. “A display of the history of firearms will be prepared in the armory. From the bow to the modern pistol. Furthermore, we will let the visitors taste a bit of Japanese culture and show the so-called tameshigiri, which is a test of the Japanese sword,” explains Martin Richter, chairman of the other organizing organization AVZO Doubravka, which is based at the castle. A castle lookout with a wonderful view of the surroundings and a restaurant with refreshments will be available to all visitors, and the folk band Orel will play for relaxation. An integral and important part of the event is the traditional race “Running on Doubravka” organized by the Spona sports section operating under the banner of AVZO Doubravka. It underwent significant changes this year. “We have changed the route, which will no longer go through the city. It will start behind the last house behind the tennis courts, where the start of Běkoda also takes place, the route will exceed a length of 5 km and an elevation of 170 meters. The goal will traditionally be in the courtyard of Doubravka,” adds Martin Richter. It starts at 1 p.m. and more about the race can be found at www.sponateplice.cz.
