The Czech Republic is clearly a Western country with energy prices – FAEI.cz

--

In essence, it can be said that the Czech Republic is clearly a western country in terms of electricity prices, because there is no other “new” EU member country in front of us except Cyprus. In terms of purchasing power parity, electricity prices here were even the highest in the entire EU.

Compared to the first half of 2021, when basic electricity prices in our country were stabilized, they are now 75 percent higher. The Czech Republic sounds a little better in the comparison of gas prices, where it is eleventh in the case of households.

In the case of gas, our distance from Germany is actually only symbolic. The most expensive gas was clearly the Swedes, who paid almost double the price. According to these official European tables, Slovaks, for example, paid roughly half of what Czechs paid for gas.

The adjustment of electricity and gas prices is slower in our country, probably due to the existence of long fixed contracts. That could change this year, even as falling electricity prices hold back rising costs associated with supply, system management and renewables (renewable resources, editor’s note).

The price of power electricity – whether spot or forward – looks much better than a year or two ago, but the invoices are (and will continue to be, author’s note) more and more see just the additional costs and taxes.

Technical note:
Electricity – total price incl. taxes in euros in the band 2.5-4.99 MWh
Gas – total price incl. taxes in euros in the band 20-199 GJ
