Strong thunderstorms will plague the northwest of the Czech Republic on Wednesday. On Thursday, we have to count on them throughout the territory. Meteorologists issued a warning ahead of them.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday Prague, Central Bohemia, Karlovy Vary, Ústí and Liberec regions and part of the Pilsen region (Kralovice, Nýřany, Pilsen, Rokycany, Stříbro, Tachov).
Meteorologists expect the storms to be accompanied by torrential rain with totals of around 40 millimeters, hail or strong winds with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. It is precisely because of heavy rains that small streams can overflow and flood tunnels, underpasses or basements. The wind can break the branches.
“Dangers can also be hail and lightning. You need to pay attention to safety, especially with regard to the risk of being struck by lightning and being injured by falling and flying objects. When driving a car in a storm, reduce your speed and drive very carefully,” advise experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). .
