  • High price considering the competition

The middle class from Samsung is for the South Korean brand the most important one. Although not from the point of view of prestige, but from the point of view of sales. Last year’s “three” and “five” series were among the best-selling phones on the Czech market, and this year the cheaper Galaxy A35 and the more expensive Galaxy A55, which we were able to test in the editorial office, are trying to follow a similar wave.

We tested the Samsung Galaxy A55 in the Awesome Lemon color variant

Intergenerational changes are not extreme, but they do occur. First of all, it got there on a metal body in interesting color shades, in the second row we also saw the new Exynos 1480 chipset. Exynos traditionally does not have a high reputation, but finally it is a 4nm chipset that has improved performance and has a few interesting things up its sleeve. And thirdly, we have more RAM in the base and larger AMOLED display covered with Victus+ glass. However, on white surfaces when viewed from the side, we notice “rainbowing”, towards orange and blue-green. And that’s not something you want to see on a 12k phone. The same applies to the very wide frames that make the first impression they don’t help much.

And we will also rate the display negatively because of the optical fingerprint reader, which recognizes the finger in three cases out of ten. Either the finger is not recognized at all or you have to press more on the display. Sometimes, however, it happens that the reader suddenly reacts completely flawlessly, and it only takes half a finger to be read, and it unlocks the phone promptly. However, you never know when you are the reader chooses a weaker moment. It is often in those situations when you need it the least. After 14 days of use, the problems with the reader disappeared completely, so we don’t know what to think of her.

The design itself in the era refers to the Galaxy S24 series, the trio of cameras on the back did not undergo any significant changes, we also acknowledge the use of Victus glass on the back. But it is shiny and the phone on textile surfaces (couch, tablecloth) it slides a lot. A clear distinguishing sign is the “island” for the side buttons, but we didn’t like it. We can’t think of a single reason to praise this design element. You will need your thumb to operate the side buttons fold even morethan so far.

The hardware is otherwise decent, you can count on eSIM, 5G or microSD card support. The phone has a decent endurance on one charge, increased durability IP67. The phone runs Android 14 with the One UI 6.1 superstructure, which you can rely on four successor generations of Android and five years of security updates. In addition, the Galaxy A55 is the first Samsung to support duplicate partition, which significantly speeds up the updates themselves. You simply don’t wait for the system and apps to optimize, you just restart the phone.

Similarities and differences between Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55:

However, we cannot help but feel that several innovations ultimately it may not be enough. Especially because of the price, which is still 12 thousand crowns in the basic variant. It only takes a small extra charge and you can have the “esque” Galaxy S23 FE, which is really equipped somewhere else. And we haven’t even mentioned interesting competing models from other brands…
