Zelenskyj thanked the Czech government for speeding up the Czech ammunition initiative

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on the social network https://twitter.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1785388419905966308 thanked the Czech government and its president, Petr Fial, for speeding up the Czech initiative aimed at purchasing artillery ammunition for Ukraine, which has been resisting large-scale Russian military aggression for more than two years.

“I met with the Prime Minister of (Ukraine) Denys Shmyhal today to discuss the details of arms and ammunition supplies, as well as our relevant work with partners. The prime minister informed me about the state of negotiations and the implementation of decisions,” the Ukrainian president wrote on the social network. “I am especially grateful to the Czech government and Prime Minister Petar Fial for speeding up the artillery ammunition initiative,” he added.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala came up with a proposal to purchase ammunition outside the member states of the European Union at an extraordinary summit of the Union at the beginning of February. Ukraine could receive the first deliveries from this initiative in June, he said in mid-April after a meeting at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance Fiala. He also mentioned that, thanks to the Czech initiative, it was already possible to obtain 500,000 pieces of artillery ammunition. There are contracts for almost 200,000, and according to him, the Czech Republic is very realistically able to secure another 300,000 pieces.
