Prime Minister Fiala wants to push through the resignation without giving a reason

“Individual parties have the right to propose adjustments and it depends on whether they find a majority in the Chamber of Deputies. The ODS will seek support for this amendment, because we consider greater flexibility of labor law to be necessary,” Prime Minister Fiala told Novinka. “Ultimately, the change will also help the employees,” he added. How specifically, he did not specify.

In April, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL), sent the amendment to the comment procedure, stating that he did not include this method of termination because the social aspect of the whole matter has not been resolved.

“We would have to think about how we will guarantee that people do not lose their standard of living when using this measure from the point of view of their previous employment,” he said in a recent interview for Novinky.

However, a number of coalition MPs do not like this. The vice-president of the Citizen Democrats, Eva Decroix, has previously confirmed that her party is seeking support among other MPs for the resignation without reason. However, it would be subject to a higher severance pay, for example in the amount of six or eight months’ salary. According to Decroix, it would not be disadvantageous for the employee, it would get him to the labor market faster.

Unions are considering protests

Opinions on dismissal without giving a reason differ not only in the coalition. For example, the chairwoman of the ANO parliamentary club Alena Schillerová is against it. And also the trade unions, which launched a campaign under the slogan “You’re fired, today we, tomorrow you”. They want to alert the public to the risks associated with changing the Labor Code. Health unions have even declared a strike alert.

“This takes us way back in time. We want to say a clear no to these government proposals. We do not think that this should move the labor market,” said the chairman of the Kovo Trade Union Roman Ďurčo. “We are being shown how it works for them in Denmark, but they are not telling us that their employees are guaranteed 90 percent of their wages for up to two years,” he added, adding that there could be protests.

“As far as education is concerned, it is completely out of the question. Specifically in education, I can imagine that this would lead to the suppression of certain opinions,” said the head of the school unions František Dobšík.

On the contrary, representatives of employers are pushing for the introduction. According to them, every company would change their mind about using the measure, it would be rather exceptional. But they see it as a straightening of relations between employees and employers.

“Every employer knows that if they want to keep a quality worker, they have to treat them in a certain way, pay them an appropriate wage and provide them with conditions for performing their work. And it should work the other way around too. Even an employee should be aware that if he does not work well, the employment relationship with him may end,” said the president of the Confederation of Employers’ and Entrepreneurs’ Unions, Jiří Horecký.
