“We still have this information unofficially, so I am not able to confirm it. The truth is that the priest in question really went on a Sunday pilgrimage to Rome, where he is at the moment. We think that this is some misunderstanding, apparently he underestimated the situation. We certainly do not believe there is any ill intent in this. Of course, it depends on the police how they will investigate it, we completely respect the actions of the Italian authorities,” said Jiří Gračka, the spokesman of the Olomouc archdiocese.
After the arrest, the priest defended himself by saying that the bag in which he was carrying the weapons belonged to someone else, specifically another participant in the expedition, and that they were only for personal protection.
