During the visit, which will last until Tuesday, Xi will meet with President Emmanuel Macron. According to the media, he wants to discuss with him, among other things, trade issues and cooperation in various areas, as well as international crises, including the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, and global problems, especially the climate crisis.

A tripartite meeting between Macron, Si and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also planned for Monday in Paris. They should talk especially about the possibilities of ending the war in Ukraine.

Beijing repeatedly calls for a diplomatic solution to this conflict, but at the same time refuses to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine and continues to maintain friendly relations with Moscow. Western countries are asking China to put pressure on Russia regarding the war in Ukraine.

According to the Elysee Palace, Xi Jinping will also visit the southern French department of Hautes-Pyrénées.

France’s Uyghur community expressed outrage on Friday, saying the Chinese president’s state visit was “an encouragement for China to continue its crimes.” Si’s community called him the “executioner of the Uyghur people” responsible for the “genocide of the Uyghur people”.

China is criticized in Europe for, among other things, espionage and cyber-espionage activities, which have been accused by several countries, including Britain and Germany, of people allegedly connected to China this year.

The uproar was especially caused by the case of Maximilian Krah, assistant to the German MEP and leader of the Alternative for Germany candidate, who is suspected of espionage for Beijing.

China’s trade practices are also causing concern at EU level. Chinese diplomacy, on the other hand, accused Europe of protectionism in connection with this in April.
