As TV Joj reported on Tuesday, children between the ages of three and five rode the pony. “The children were in the garden with the horses and suddenly they ran that there was a bear,” said the children’s mother. A grandmother with a seven-month-old baby was also on the property.
The land is secured by an electric fence, but they did not expect the bear to be so close to family homes. “The bear wanted to get into the compound, but it didn’t overcome the electric fence, so it roared, people started to panic and ran away with children in their arms. Horses also behind them,” described the situation, the mayor of the village, Matúš Leňo.
One of the neighbors then saw the bear running into the forest. According to TV Joj, this is a busy area with a sports complex, where a lot of people come especially in the summer months, especially tourists, mushroom pickers and locals. The mayor also confirmed that residents of the village saw bears with cubs at the local observatory. “It’s a wilderness here,” stated the mayor.

In the coming days, the brown bear response team will investigate the area and try to find out if they are migrating bears or if they have a den in the vicinity of the village.
