Nothing changes at the head of the Russian government. Putin once again proposed Mishustin as prime minister

--

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed re-appointing Mikhail Mishustin as prime minister. The 58-year-old politician has held the post of prime minister since 2020, when he replaced Dmitry Medvedev. However, according to the Russian constitution, he must be appointed again after the presidential elections.

It still needs to be approved by the Duma, but Reuters points out that this is virtually certain, as there is virtually no opposition in parliament.

“President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin submitted to the State Duma a proposal for the candidacy of Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin for the post of Prime Minister,” Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said on the Telegram network. “Deputies will make a responsible decision on this matter today on behalf of their constituents.”

Before becoming prime minister, Mishustin was a career civil servant. After his first appointment, the Russian press described him as an honest official who, thanks to digitization, improved the tax collection process and stepped on the gray economy.

However, as anti-corruption organizations and independent media point out, this reputation has its cracks. No one can answer the question of how Mishustin and his loved ones reached the dizzying wealth.

Mishustin was considered the favorite to continue in the office, however, there were also talks about the deputy head of the Russian presidential office, Sergei Kiriyenko, or the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin.
