Fraudsters are no strangers to the misuse of alleged footage of famous personalities – not only politicians, but also athletes or actors. iROZHLAS.cz has drawn attention to these practices several times before.

However, with the new technologies that fraudsters are using, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish an edited recording from the real thing.

In the latest video, which is now circulating on social networks, Andrej Babiš is “acting” again. Next to him jump temptingly hot sums marked as “interest-bearing investments”. In addition, everything is accompanied by a link that appears to lead to the news website CNN Prima News for added legitimacy.

Rogues have previously misused the name and face of tennis player Petra Kvitová or well-known media personality Kazma Kazmitch, who also lured people into miraculous investments, thanks to which they allegedly became rich.

Specifically, the editors refuted this fraudulent advertisement in cooperation with the public as part of the Verification Center project! on your own skin.

The videos feel believable

“With text written in Czech without grammatical errors, they show a very tempting crediting of money to a bank account. Advertisements are often localized, they refer to people from your neighborhood who have miraculously become rich. It is therefore difficult to recognize that it is a forgery,” Michal Merta, director of Accenture’s Cyber Fusion Center, previously described the principle of fraud to Czech Radio.

The problem with such videos is that people often do not believe or simply do not know that imitating the voice and face of someone they know is technologically possible.

Cases filed against the practices of Tom Kavtičnik's company Hezké oblječní s.r.o. are still increasing. According to the spokesperson of the Czech Trade Inspection, there are already several dozen of them

“It is quite common that clients do not believe that such a thing is possible because they have not encountered artificial intelligence. They didn’t encounter AI videos. That’s why it’s hard for them to convince themselves that something like this can exist,” explained Czech Banking Association spokesman Radek Šalša in an interview with Český rozhlas Plus.

Police spokesman Ondřej Moravčík then pointed out that if the victim discovers in time that it is a fraud, it is sometimes possible to save the money. However, the person concerned must contact his bank, which can subsequently stop the transaction. According to Moravčík, the problem is also that people do not read the terms and conditions of the contract.

People all over the world already in a similar way they lost millions of crowns. Two years ago, for example, one Australian gradually lost more than 650,000 Australian dollars (almost 10 million crowns), and a month ago the media drew attention to the case of a man from Brno who lost two million crowns through fraudulent investment websites.
