One miracle was enough. USK Prague once again reigns over Brno, it has the 14th title in a row

--

Combined with the federal league, the women of Prague won their 26th title and once again consolidated their position at the top of the historical standings ahead of Sparta (23).

In the packed Rosnička hall, where the USK basketball players lost 69:71 in Monday’s second final and their record winning streak ended after 301 games, they did not lose even once on Sunday.

Note: In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the title was not awarded in the basketball and handball competitions.

The best scorer of the match was María Conde with 16 points. Another USK mainstay, Ezi Magbegorová, was named the most valuable player of the final series.

“The road to the title was basically the same as in recent years, except that we complicated it this year with a plot when we lost here. Today we showed the quality and concentration that we can’t mess with anything. After the Final Four (Euroleague) but it is always difficult. The team was mentally and physically exhausted and that is why we are here (on Monday) they lost,” USK coach Natália Hejková told journalists after the match.

“However, the fact that we lost here has one huge positive. Today there were a lot of people who thought that maybe… And the USK hall was also full. So excellent,” added the Slovakian coach.

As in the previous two years, Žabiny took second place and did not expand their collection of 14 titles. They last triumphed in the 2009/10 season.

“This medal is the most beautiful in recent years. I am extremely proud of what the girls have accomplished here. After that historic victory, I told them that they had my respect and admiration. They more or less managed to change history,” said coach Žabin Viktor Pruša.

“Today was the most fulfilled Rosnička that I could personally have here. In quotes, we made the basketball world crazy, at least the women’s part. I wish the players the best, they deserved it for the year-long work. No one is going to take this away from us, and neither will those girls in their careers,” he declared.

“It’s not enough to beat them three times yet. But we have not yet realized what we have achieved. USK is the bronze medalist of the Euroleague and it is a complete David and Goliath fight. We have a completely different path and philosophy. Talking about how far we are is in the stars. Every match is different. No one would say that we can play them evenly this season and we even beat them. Nothing is impossible and this team did it,” Pruša said.

Zabiny managed to keep pace with the favorite only at the beginning of the match. In the 14th minute, Conde gave the favorites a lead of 14 points with her third three-pointer in the match. At the end of the second quarter, the Prague team demonstrated an eight-point streak, which was ended by Nyara Saballyová with three consecutive baskets to make it 45:27. Before halftime, Eliška Hamzová even reduced the score.

The bronze team of the European League continued their dominance after the break and the Frogs could not stop the increasing score. In total, the women of Prague made 10 three-pointers, four of which were made by Conde. The home team converted only one of 17 attempts. In the 32nd minute, Emese Hofová pushed the lead over 30 points for the first time. Thanks to Gabriela Andělová, who scored ten points in the last quarter (14 in total), the champions were close to a lead of 40 points, but in the end they did not reach it.

“In the end, we managed it as we managed it. I think we can be satisfied that we grabbed it here and showed everyone that what happened will probably not happen again for some time,” said USK captain Tereza Vyoralová.

“On the one hand, I was sorry, but we are also only people. The series was terribly long and that day had to come. It’s probably stupid that he came in the finals and not in the season. Became. Rather, the answer was important. We managed it decently at home and here we made it clear from the beginning that it would not happen again,” said Vyoralová.
