“I will work until I win the cup,” was the strongest sentence of the post-match interviews at the Pardubice cabin. It was spoken by goalkeeper Roman Will. During the entire playoff, he did not go among the journalists, he concentrated on his own performances, as is customary for goalkeepers. But he imagined the last game of the season differently.
“The children are older and understand everything. They wanted the title as much as I did. When you see them crying after the match, there’s nothing left but to cry with them,” sad Will described his emotions at the changing table, where Dynamo players’ families lined up after the match.
Will has already lost one final with Třinec, in 2019 in the Liberec jersey. Last year, his Pardubice lost to Třinec in the seventh game of the semi-final…
“We struggled, we fought. I don’t know what happened, that maybe we didn’t deserve it. The seventh game was played, the second overtime, and we lost 1:2. It’s so sad, it’s hard for me to talk,” Will continued.
“But that’s the way it is. I congratulate Třinca very much. It was a beautiful and fair final that people enjoyed. We will be better next year,” he added.
Will your team move it again?
I am absolutely convinced of that. We’re building something long-term here, it’s not like we had two years to get the title, not at all. I have a very good feeling. We are an incredible team, a great bunch, one day we will complete the colossus.
Will it be easier to forget the lost seventh final with this feeling? Practically the day after tomorrow, the new season starts.
No. At all. It is not possible. It’s hard to explain, but this hurts so bad. I’m definitely not going to slam the book with the fact that it’s a new season. Although I will go back to work, but with the feeling that I carry with me after losing the seventh final. I believe everyone will. That we will remember this experience and transfer it to the first training session.
It was the second longest Pardubice match in history. How demanding is extra time in a match like this for the goalkeeper?
I saw it as every other third. But I really believed that we could do it, I was convinced of it. That helps you, plus we knew it was the last game. Whatever happens, there will be no more tomorrow, no training.
When the decisive goal was scored and the commuter players moved the goal, did you hope that Třinec’s golden strike would not be valid?
There was nothing there. The puck got into a scrum of players and just went into my goal. I don’t know who and how he got it there, but it was immediately clear to me that it was simply a goal.

Cinel already scored such a goal in the series that it bounced off maybe five players. In short, they fall in the playoffs.
What could have been done better?
That is a good question. We’re all putting it on now. I think I can speak for a team that has a clear conscience. We had fun, the whole season was really fun. There was a lot of pressure on us, rightly so, but we were humble. We aimed for the title, but unfortunately it didn’t happen.
Did winning experience help Třína?
Well, probably yes. Hats off to Třinec, who already showed in the series with Sparta. He had a lot of injuries and is celebrating the title again. We have to learn and be even better next time.
One day the steel series will end. The great challenge before you remains…
I wish the title with all my heart. And I’ll keep working on it until I get it. I believe it will happen one day.
What did you see in front of you during the seventh final?
Not only during it, I saw a great team, the whole of this season and last year. We represented well in the Champions League, at the Spengler Cup… We have great players that people like to come and watch. I believe that all these incremental steps will help us to be more successful.
