Forty-one victories, eighty podiums, three championship titles. Such is the balance of Ayrton Senna’s ten-year career in Formula 1. He could have added many more successes, but on May 1, 1994, he had a fatal accident during the San Marino Grand Prix at the Imola circuit. Although several modern racers have already managed to surpass him in the statistics, to this day Senna is considered one of the best (if not the best) pilot of all time.
It is therefore not surprising that his former property is very popular with motoring enthusiasts and mobile collectors. And that includes cars. The red Honda NSX is now headed for sale after the Brazilian champion. As evidenced by pictures from Auto Trader, which is sponsoring the sale, this is a piece that Senna raced and took very good care of.
The NSX is an impressive machine in its own right. It is driven forward by a three-liter six-cylinder with an output of 271 horsepower, it conquers 100 km/h in 6 seconds and continues to a maximum speed of 265 km/h. Senna was already involved in the development itself, and during tests at the Japanese Suzuka circuit, he convinced the engineers to give the car an even stiffer chassis.
This particular piece was first registered in 1991, yet today it only has 63,000 kilometers on the odometer. Not only did Senna drive it, but he later appeared in a film about it. As part of the event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the pilot’s death in 2019, Giancarlo Minardi, who at one time ran his own F1 team, raced him at Imola in Italy.
Since 2013, the car has been owned by a certain Robert McFagan, who bought it in Portugal and kept it at his estate in Great Britain. But now he decided that he could make someone else happy. “It was a great honor to own one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sports legend. I will never forget the thrill of driving Senna’s car,” he said.
Auto Trade is putting the red Honda NSX up for bid just before the 30th anniversary of the Brazilian champion’s death. You can buy a sports car for exactly 500,000 pounds, which translates to just over 14.7 million crowns. So what, shall we fold?
