Leicester were relegated from the Premier League a year ago, last week definitively secured a quick return to the English elite and yesterday sealed the first place in the League Championship. The ageless Jamie Vardy once again played an important role in all of this.

The Foxes won 3-0 at Preston on Monday night and will not face Leeds or Ipswich ahead of the final programme. Enzo Maresca’s men have collected 97 points, they will welcome Blackburn in the last round and will have the opportunity to round their account to 100.

“We are at the peak of our well-being. At the beginning of the season, promotion was our goal, but we reached it by a different path. A new coach came and told us how he wanted us to play. Everything went quickly and it was hard work, we only had a minimum of free days. Today we can celebrate, but we have one more challenge ahead of us – to break the 100-point mark. We will celebrate with all the fans on Saturday, but before that we have to do our work.” Vardy stated.

Vardy is 37 years old, finishing his twelfth season at Leicester and is signed under all the club’s successes from the past years. He won the English title and triumph in the FA Cup with his teammates, and now he will wait to see if he will receive an offer to extend his expiring contract.

“As for next season, I feel good, I’m fresh. I take care of myself a lot and regenerate at home, that’s where I head right after every training session. I’m not ready to hang up my football boots yet, my legs feel good. I’m fit, just like I’ve always been, so we’ll see what happens” he said on the subject of the next future.

Vardy still does not belong to the old iron, and the fact that he scored twenty competitive goals this year confirms it. He added the last two to his account yesterday, a total of 190 for Leicester.

“How can you not love scoring goals? I’m talking about the second one in particular, I scored it in front of our fans. There is no better feeling in that moment.” he recalled that five thousand Leicester fans went to the match in Preston.
