The American company Netflix is preparing to launch a six-part animated series that charts the life of the outstanding Brazilian Formula 1 driver, 30 years after his death.

With 41 Grand Prix victories and 65 pole positions to his credit, three-time Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna is one of the absolute best circuit drivers in history. His status as a legend was underlined by his tragic death during the San Marino Grand Prix at the Imola circuit (officially called the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari) on May 1, 1994. This Wednesday therefore marks 30 years since his untimely passing.

During his ten-year stint with the queen of motorsport, Senna became one of the audience’s biggest favourites, while the love for the Brazilian hottie continues to this day. Fourteen years ago, the universally well-received Senna documentary was created, which focused on the career of this rider. Soon, the animated series will finally appear on TV screens (we wrote about its creation four years ago), the first trailer of which was published just this Wednesday, May 1.

Netflix’s six-part series Senna, starring Brazilian actor Gabriel Leon as the famous pilot, dramatizes Ayrton’s life up to his tragic death. Matt Mella as Alain Prost, Johannes Heinrichs as Niki Lauda, Steven Mackintosh as Frank Williams and Charlie Hamblett as British driver Martin Brundle will appear in other roles.

Unlike the award-winning documentary of the same name, the series will be based more on fiction, so it will not stick to reality as much.

For Netflix, this is another project from the environment of Formula 1. For several years, the behind-the-scenes documentary series called F1: Desire for Victory (in the original Formula 1: Drive to Survive) has received a great response from fans around the world.
