Eight boxing and MMA matches brought 602 thousand crowns to the Military Solidarity Fund in one evening. Among the fighters were amateurs and professionals, all united by solidarity with war veterans and their families. The gala evening of combat sports in support of them was held in the Czech Republic for the first time.

“Matty, Matty!” chants the Prague UNYP arena, in which an unusually large number of people in camouflage uniforms are sitting. He is trying one last time to outwit his colleague lieutenant colonel Petr Matouš, who, despite being an amateur in combat sports, is fighting with David Dvořák, a fighter of the prestigious UFC league.

“Next time I’d better come up with something with running, because it was a massacre, it was much worse than I expected, I forgot most of the techniques,” Matouš, the commander of the 43rd Parachute Regiment, evaluated his debut in the cage immediately after the match, which he lost.

But it didn’t bother him for long. At the first Fighters for veterans gala evening, where soldiers, policemen and professional wrestlers faced each other, 602 thousand crowns were collected.

The evening, which began with a minute of silence, was intended for veterans and survivors of fallen Czech soldiers. The proceeds from it went to the Military Solidarity Fund, which now has more than 40 million crowns.

“It’s an incredible thing that Commander Chrudim managed. Staying there for five minutes with such a wounder! After a year of training to get in there with him, hats off,” veteran Martin Kocourek enthusiastically evaluated the main match of the evening. He became paralyzed after an illness, and the Military Solidarity Fund will now arrange manual steering for his car so that he can control it himself again.

The wrestlers certainly did not spare each other. Other fights even involved blood and stitches. Learn more in our photo gallery.
