The fiasco of Czech youngsters proves the futility and decline of our hockey

The Czech hockey team was stronger than the Slovaks on paper. Nevertheless, the Slovak team was able to win and eliminate the Czech Republic. Once again, it became clear that Czech hockey benefits more from the reputation of past years than from current performance.

The fact that Canada outclasses the Czech youngsters 6:0 was actually to be expected given the trend of recent years. The historical embarrassment, when the Czech Republic was able to defeat Kazakhstan, was not as expected and only confirmed the misery that the Czech under-18 hockey team was the embodiment of. And after that, our youngsters preferred to say goodbye to the tournament completely by losing 2:3 against Slovakia. This is perhaps ultimately a good thing for the Czech team, because their hockey literally hurt the eyes.

The golden generation from the turn of the century or from the tournament in Vienna fifteen years ago is long gone. However, the 18-year-old hockey team does not yet indicate that it could replace her. He has been waiting for a medal for ten long years. And after the recent defeat against Slovakia, it is clear that the wait will be long. Considering the disastrous performances, perhaps very significantly.

The youth education system of Czech hockey is absolutely not working and the clubs are not interested in its future. This is shown by the example of Kladno, which is an anti-talent in working with youth, and the (mis)concept is also proven by the senior team of the Knights, which only stays in the extra league thanks to the pointless playoff system.

Another decline can be expected

How Czech hockey is declining can be seen precisely by comparing it with Slovakia. At last year’s NHL draft, the Slovaks outnumbered the Czechs in the number of draftees in a ratio of eight to seven. The year before, Juraj Slafkovský and Šimon Nemec even occupied the first two places. At least the Slovaks have significantly better young attackers than we do. That’s just a sad fact. At the same time, this could not be said before, and Slovakia was lagging behind Czech hockey most of the time. On top of that, the Swiss and Germans ignominiously chased us. It is a sign that we are heading for the abyss. Hockey abysses of history.

Czech hockey is faltering

Zero concept, bloated leagues, where a team from every pond in the regional city plays slowly at the highest level or teams with an average age of around thirty years. However, hockey officials do not want to admit that they are doing something wrong. They’re probably waiting for reality to hit them in the face. It’s a wonder it hasn’t happened yet. Only if Czech hockey manages to get out of this stale environment, there is a chance for change.

However, recent events suggest otherwise. The coach of the senior national team, Radim Rulík, again naively decided to bet on experience and fading thirty-somethings. He left most of the few promising young hockey players we have at home. Again, we are apparently aiming for a promotion from the basic group as much as possible.
