A stocky figure that was really far from an athlete’s body. Even with this form, the 35-year-old Fury entered last year’s duel against the newcomer in the world of boxing, Cameroonian Francis Ngannou, to whom he inflicted a narrow points defeat. And while many mostly dealt with the controversial result, which could easily have gone the other way, Fury’s physical unpreparedness, which almost cost him invincibility, was also pointed out. “I thought he was missing about ten kilos of muscle. Something was wrong,” Fury’s father John told The Sun.

Fury weighed 126 kilos at the time, which was reflected in his movement, accuracy and reaction speed in the fight. That is why, before one of the biggest boxing battles in history against the Ukrainian Usyk, speculation began as to whether the British champion was serious. He thinks the evidence speaks for itself. Fans currently can’t praise Fury’s modified version, which is quite far from last year’s. Difference? Less than seven months and many kilograms.

“Undisputed Champion – May 18, 2024,” Gypsy King wrote on social media in a post where he showed off a noticeably more athletic figure. He lost fat, gained muscle. It is obvious that he abandoned the habits in which he was easily able to manage 6 thousand calories a day. Before the fight with the African Ngannou, he allegedly ate six meals a day, including sixteen eggs, and he didn’t even mind the fact that the fight was literally around the corner.

Now he turned. Fury realizes the weight of the moment, which can secure his dream position as the best of the best. If he wins, he will have four heavyweight championships on his shoulders. And Usyk? He would suddenly lose everything he had gained up to that time. In short, one takes everything, the other has nothing.

On the part of the Ukrainian champion of the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO organizations, body proportions were never much discussed. The Olympic champion from 2012 won supremely every time, he also claimed the double scalp of the feared Briton Anthony Joshua, who had only fallen once before. It is now clear that one of the actors of the most watched boxing event not only this year will lose his aura of invincibility. Of course, there is also a draw.

The sports world is slowly but surely forming into two fan camps. “If Tyson does the job he has to, it should be a one-horse race. Tyson will stop him in eight rounds,” says Fury’s father John in an interview with GB News. “I don’t think Usyk has anything to threaten him. He’s agile and talented, but I think Tyson has the same amount of talent. Plus he’s bigger, stronger, determined, has heart, you have to nail him to the ground to beat him. Usyk doesn’t have that kind of power,” reflects the fifty-nine-year-old native of Ireland.

The fight will take place on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the fight will also be for fabulous money. Both boxers should split 200 million dollars, i.e. roughly 4.7 billion crowns. “Oleksandr is a damn tough guy, it would be stupid to underestimate him. I train hard and do my best. I respect him as a person, I also respect his career. He’s a good boxing talent and he’s proven he can handle the big heavyweights, beating both Joshua and Dubois,” Fury acknowledges.

British promoter Frank Warren has no doubts about the mentality of his “horse”. “I spoke to Tyson during the week and I think he is in very good shape. Even though he recently went through an injury (a laceration over his eye) he looks very good, physically I have never seen him like this before. He worked really hard to live up to his nickname on May 18th. I feel he will put on a great performance and stop Usyk.”
