They vomited on the bus, the driver complained. Police defend humiliating checks on fans

--

“It was about the behavior of some supporters of the FC Hradec Králové football club during the transport of the substitute bus transport from Turnov to Liberec for the match with the home team FC Slovan Liberec, who were extremely noisy and under the influence of alcohol soiled the buses (vomited), thus violating the transport regulations. Jana Světlá, head of the press and prevention department of the Liberec regional police, explained in the official answer.

The bus driver’s complaint caused the police to become interested in the group of passengers.

“It was a sufficient impulse for the police,” reads one of the answers to the questions sent to the police two weeks ago by the editors on the basis of the Freedom of Information Act.

What happened after reporting?

The majority of Hradec Králové fans who visited the match in Liberec on their own axis on April 21 had to undergo a non-standard police check in front of the turnstiles. The fans had to come forward one by one with their IDs close to their faces in front of a policeman in camouflage pants who recorded the fans in this position on camera

The control in front of the stadium was filmed by one of the spectators, the footage spread on social networks and several media outlets reported on the police procedure.

“It’s humiliating when you have to stand in front of the camera with your ID next to your head like a criminal. Nothing pleasant,” described “Votroks” fan Jan Pajer, according to whom the inspection was a condition for access to the stadium.

“Whoever wanted to go to football had to undergo it, including children who don’t even have citizenship. They had to report their date of birth and the police filmed them. For example, a 65-year-old lady was passing by, who told the staff for fun that she wouldn’t wash again, and still had to humiliatingly hold her ID next to her head,” added a loyal fan who experienced a similar procedure for the first time.

“There were no arrests of persons under 10 years of age, 6 persons under 15 years of age who appeared to be adults, and 1 person over 60 years of age were appointed,” the police responded to Sport.cz. She defended herself a few days after the match by checking only part of the fans, after warning about the non-standard behavior of several of them, and thus prevented the commission of more serious forms of criminal activity.

From the current answers, it follows that 116 fans out of 160 who bought a ticket to the Hradec Kótel had to go through a rarely seen check.

The editors asked for more detailed information that would clarify the adequacy of the unusual identification and also why they affected most of Hradec’s unproblematic supporters.

“Approximately 60-70 people were transported by bus, it is impossible to calculate exactly. 116 people were checked before entering the stadium. The higher number of people checked was probably caused by the merging of other visitors with the group that was monitored by the police. Due to the adequacy of the procedure and tactical reasons, it was not possible to strictly separate the group, that is, it could not be achieved without the use of force, for which no reason was found,” Svetlá added.

The match took place directly at the stadium without major problems, the fans of Hradec Králové only used prohibited pyrotechnics in the second half. In its sector, one of the groups of Hradec fans also left a sticker with a fascist motif, probably fulfilling the essence of the crime of disrupting people’s coexistence.

Since this match, Liberec U Nisa has not played yet, the home duel awaits him only on Sunday in Teplice in the return semi-final of the middle superstructure group for Europe.

And if he manages to erase the two-goal deficit from the first duel and advance, it is possible that he will welcome Hradec again.
